A flag bearer hopeful of the opposition National Democratic Congress is urging executives and members of the party to document all allegations of corruption and ill-happenings in the NPP government under the watch of President Akufo-Addo as the biggest opposition party prepares to stake claim to the presidency in the 2020 general elections.
According to the NDC presidential aspirant, it will be suicidal on the part of members not to document and keep track of all the negative happenings in the Akufo Addo-led NPP administration “and play it to Ghanaians when election 2020 is due”.
“The surest way to let Ghanaians know the difference between the NDC and NPP is to tell them what is happening under the NPP’s watch. Of course Ghanaians are witnesses to what is happening, but it is incumbent on us to remind Ghanaians when election is due so that they won’t repeat their 2016 mistake,” the flag bearer aspirant who does not want his name mentioned noted.
His advice to NDC members was contained in correspondence with The aL-hAJJ on happenings in the country and how the biggest opposition party can latch on it to recapture power.
“If we have to open a file at the party headquarters to keep records of these things, we have to do it. It is very important…these things will play key role in the next election and we must not lose track of them,” he stated.
He said “taking stock of these corruption allegations and bad things will not only be used as a tool to win election…the corruption cases for instance, are the most important things that we must take note of because when we return to power we must investigate all these cases and prosecute the perpetuators.”
The flag bearer hopeful who has not official declared his intention to contest but have some NDC members busily projecting him, said the NPP have in the last seven months in office proven that they cannot keep to their promise.
“The Akufo-Addo government has so far demonstrated to Ghanaians that the NPP don’t have the men to govern this country. All the things they have promised have turned out to be a façade. Corruption is the order of the day and the irony is that the President who promised to protect the public purse is not interested in punishing anybody for these corrupt acts,” he stated.
Cataloguing some corruption scandals that have hit the infant Akufo-Addo government which he said have not been satisfactorily dealt with, the NDC presidential hopeful mentioned the alleged Boakye Agyarko parliamentary bribery scandal, BOST contaminated fuel case saga, Ken Ofori Atta’s $2.25 billion bond, allegations of bribery to approve MMDCES, Otiko’s allegations against Bugri Naabu accepting goodies from MMDCE hopefuls, bribery allegation against Northern regional minister, bribery allegation against Lord Commey, unaccounted Ghana@60 funds among others.
He noted that “these corruption cases are just a tip of the iceberg. From the way the president is looking unconcerned while his people plunder the country’s scarce resources, we should record a lot of these corruption scandals.”
“That is the reason why we have to document them. We will measure their deeds against their promises and present it to Ghanaians to judge between us and them. Ghanaians must be told that the NPP lied their way to power and this will be an easy job to do because they (Ghanaians) are living witnesses,” he added.
